“Withdraw into yourself and look.”
Plotinus asks how we are to see the beauty of a good soul, and answers in five words. Then he tells us to work on ourselves the way a sculptor works a statue, cutting away here and smoothing there until it shines.

The line
The line comes from the Enneads of Plotinus, in Stephen MacKenna's translation (1917), a text of the Neoplatonic tradition.
The words appear exactly as that translation gives them. The translation is in the public domain, and the text itself is in The Sacred Act’s library.
